Want a raise?

| May 19, 2008

Happy Victoria Day (long week-end for us folks in Canada)

So, you want a raise eh? Well, why don’t you ask for it.

It turns out that the ones that climb the corporate ladder farther and faster are the ones to ask for things, while the rest remain silent. And the reason: they don’t know to ask, they set low targets for themselves, they become anxious, and they worry about social consequences.

By neglecting to negotiate your starting salary, you sacrifice half a million to $1.5 million in pay over the course of your career.
