Tap Early!

| Mar 8, 2007

My second session in JuJitsu went pretty well tonight. This time the class was much more intense with a very good warm-up. Training with a class full of black belts is great. Fortunetly I have the fitness level to keep up with them. The major listen I learnt tonight was to tap early and often — No need to get injured in training.

Also, in Taekwondo you strive to keep your opponent at a distance. In JuJitsu you learn to become comfortable operating at very close range, both standing and on the ground. Also, I am unlearning many moves. For example I have to unlearn a few things about how I weight my stance, learning to be much more aware of my balance, and about varying the distancing from my opponent.

Overall, I’m enjoying the mental and physical workouts. It is an on-going challenge to learn and combine all the different techniques, but as I do so,A I am also improving my ability to defend myself well. I still have not signed up to become a full-time member, but I will.
