Opposing the Boss!

| Feb 27, 2007

An organization (department, division, store, etc.) takes its cue from the person running the show. I am a strong believer that leaders and their personal intensity determines their leadership and their organization’s intensity. The person at the top sets the tone. But how doA you tell the person he or she is wrong? Are you destined to lose if you do so? Or are you picking a fight that you simply cannot win?A You shouldA try anyway, but do so carefully.

Once you have thought it over and have something substantive to say, the key to taking opposing positions from the boss is how you package and deliver your opinions. Also remember that even if you have the right case, without proper attitude and tone, it will fall on deaf ears and most probably it will offend someone. So don’t dig your grave, think things over, build a case, have your pros and consA at hand, and you will be on the right track.

Most bosses prefer employees who care about improving the business. If you are clearly a team player after voicing your arguments, the next time you have something to day, turst me, it will be heard.
