Moving Meditation

| Apr 11, 2007

I used to get mad during sparring. Later I was instructed by a Master to turn the negative energy into positive energy.

In seek of this “positive energy”, I’ve come to realize that martial arts really means moving meditation. In a life-and-death situation, being relaxed, aware, concentrated and undistracted is crucial. So, instead of going berserk and letting the kicks fly wild, try to enter a meditative state in which your every action is swift, accurate and efficient.

The old masters call this state “mushin” or no mind, and it is characterized by the absence of fear, anger, pride and cogitation; a feeling of calmness and clarity; and the ability to act swiftly and decisively.
