As distributed computing environment grows more complex, the problem of interoperability between applications becomes more apparent. Business collaboration and application integration are difficult due to the nature of this heterogeneous environment, where applications written in different programming languages run on various computing platforms. To overcome the barriers of these differences, several technologies are invented. XML was introduced in attempt to standardize information representation in a system independent way.
