Happy Canada Day everyone.  Toronto has so much going on this July 1st so if you’re looking for something to do, read on:

AMESBURY PARK: Pancake brunch, barbecue, live entertainment, marketplace, strongman’s competition, children’s activities and fireworks. 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Free.

Ashbridges Bay Park: Fireworks display at 9:45 p.m. Those planning to attend should use public transit and leave personal vehicles at home. Free.

CENTENNIAL PARK (ETOBICOKE): 11th Annual Ribfest. Live musical entertainment, haunted house, midway rides, and 13 professional ribbers from Canada and the USA. Fireworks at 10 p.m. June 30 to July 3, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Admission and parking are free.

EAST YORK PARADE: Motorcade starts at 9 a.m. at the East York Town Centre. Marching bands start at Dieppe Park at 10 a.m. and arrive at Stan Wadlow Park by noon.

MEL LASTMAN SQUARE: Musical performances by Canadian bands Ray Robinson and King Sunshine from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and fireworks at 10:15 p.m. choreographed to music. Free, 5100 Yonge St.

ONTARIO PLACE: Free admission and entertainment including acrobats, Six Nations performers and a celebration of Nova Scotia. From 10 a.m. until midnight. Fireworks display set to music at 10:30 p.m.

QUEEN’S PARK: Starts with citizenship ceremony at 10:30 a.m. 21-gun salute at noon and performances from around the world till 4:30 p.m. Free.

STAN WADLOW PARK: Bingo, antique cars, entertainment from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and swimming from noon to 7 p.m. Fireworks at 10:15. Free.

Weston Lions Park: Live entertainment, children’s activities and fireworks at 10 p.m. Free.

THOMSON PARK: Free pancake breakfast, buskers, live music including Solid Sound International and the Toronto All Star Big Band and children’s activities. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free. 1005 Brimley Rd.

SCARBOROUGH PARADE: Starting at 4 p.m. west of the Scarborough Civic Centre on Brimley Road, ending at Lawrence Ave. E. and Brimley Rd. at about 5:30 p.m.

MILLIKEN PARK: Fireworks at dusk. Free, Steeles Rd. and McCowan Rd.

BROADLANDS COMMUNITY CENTRE: Old Style Community Picnic, with folk-singing, face-painting and clowns, 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Free, 19 Castlegrove Blvd.

What’s open

TTC will operate on its Sunday service schedule, but will start earlier, at approximately 6 a.m. Any routes that do not normally operate on Sundays will not operate on the holiday.

GO Transit will operate on its Saturday schedule.

Garbage collection will proceed as usual in the City of Toronto.

City parks, outdoor swimming pools and wading pools.

Major tourist attractions: Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto Zoo, Ontario Science Centre, Canada’s Wonderland (with fireworks at 10 p.m.), CN Tower

Historic sites including Fort York National Historic Site, Gibson House, Colborne Lodge, Mackenzie House

Certain malls – Eaton Centre (10 a.m. – 6 p.m.), Pacific Mall (11 a.m. – 9 p.m.), Square One (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.), Vaughan Mills (10 a.m. – 7 p.m.)

Tourist-designated areas like Yorkville and the Distillery District

What’s closed

The Beer Store and LCBO

Post offices

Banks

Government offices

Many grocery stores

City of Toronto child care centres

All branches of the Toronto Public Library
