Facebook, a Country?!

In a bold , surprising and unexpected move, the Executive Management of Facebook, have officially filed an application to United Nations Cyber Council for becoming the world’s first official online country, but review of their filing is not expected for several months to come.

“We have made the important decision to submit this formal request to be the very first online country,” said Mike Zuckinberge, founder and CEO of Facebook during a televised interview on Thursday April 1st at the United Nations General Assemebly in Geneva, APP reports.

The decision had been taken “after months of planning and consultation with our shareholders, which have supported Facebook in this democratic step,” he added.

Facebook, with more than 400 million active users, is also changing it’s User Interface to be Internet’s largest user-created, 3D virtual world community.

“Registrations are a thing of the past. You will soon need to apply for a Facebook ePassport. Our vision is for our citizens to to belong to a place that is as unique and special as everyone is. In upcoming versions of Facebook, you will be able to live in a friendly neighborhood or buy that private virtual island you’ve always dreamed of. Perhaps you’ll become a landlord, or just host a party for your friends. In our Cyber country, the weather never puts a damper on your plans.”, also said Mike.

Lots of questions were left unanswered as the Interview ended quickly due to the large crowd gathering posing a security issue.  However, there will be an official news conference planned for tomorrow morning at 9:00am GMT.

Wow, personally, I cannot wait! Being a Citizen of Facebook! Be able to buy virtual land, build homes …. woohoooo!  Where do I sign up?!
