Etc. Etc. Etc.

Former U.S. vice-president Al Gore has jointly won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to spread awareness of man-made climate change. In short, he’s won the Peace Prize for making an exaggerated movie so that he can travel the world and charge $50K+ for each of his lectures. The Nobel Peace prize committee needs their head examined. This is beyond stupid. They have made some stupid mistakes in the past but this one tops them all.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a fan of Al Gore, really I am, but how do you compare his work to the work of Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, Dalai Lama, Shirin Ebadi, Nelson Mandela, Lester B Pearson, etc. etc. etc. ?

Kudos to Al Gore for brining climate-change and global warning to the forefront of today’s news. This is not something that he planned overnight. As a matter of fact he’s been working on it for a long time, but does it deserve a Nobel Peace Prize? Nope, not in my mind. This is a classic example of sticking your head in sand to ignore other more important issues going on in the world like … uhm… war, poverty, aids, etc. etc. etc.

BTW, a British judge has said in a recent ruling that some assertions in Al Gore’s documentary were not supported by scientific evidence. The case involved a challenge from a school official who did not want the film shown to students. The judge said that written guidance to teachers, designed to ensure Gore’s views are not presented uncritically, must accompany the screenings etc. etc. etc. Ouch!

So is Al Gore going to run for President? Well, I do like him so… personally, I hope so. He does have the charisma and now a Nobel Peace Prize. :-)
