Change at Work

| Feb 4, 2007

Every day something changes at work; the products we work on, the people we deal with, our schedule and deliverables, or our company’s policies. These changes can drive us up the wall sometimes, and hence may affect us negatively. The result is for us to lose focus, or on the other hand, it may propel us into greater success. That choice is ours! (well, of course there are exceptions)

Sometimes change pushes us into the unknown, hence a fear is created within us. One of the greatest fears in the world is the fear of the unknown. Because fear is such a strong emotion, it creates an enormous amount of energy in us. The problem with this is that the energy usually tends to be negative. When we fear change, we see ourselves as the victim. We feel unprepared and inadequate to conquer whatever may come before us. Most of all, we feel they we have no control over the situation.

These insecurities are internally damaging to our focus and motivation, and generally destructive throughout the company. When we are afraid, we spew out all sorts of negative comments to others. Although it may not be intentional, this fear is damaging to us, and to those around us.

Fear, however, does not always have to lead to negative energy. We can easily turn fear into positive energy by choosing to do so. Things change? So be it. Let’s throw away our doubts and insecurities and be strong in our convictions, be confident in our abilities, and be proud of the work we do. (And if they don’t want us, well, it’s their loss. Other and better things will come in life. There is always someone watching over us. You have to feel this in your heart. I believe there is a cause for everything, and things happen for a reason.)

Anyway, by changing our attitude, in turn, our results change. The energy along with the new attitude will become contagious and will spread quickly. Let’s be a positive influence to those around us, and as I said before, it’s all up to us how we cope with change.

(I’ll hold a disclaimer here and sayA “there are exceptions”)
