Chamomile Tea
Chamomile, taken form the Greek word meaning “ground apple”,A possiblyA dates back at least to ancient Egypt, where Chamomile tea was prescribed as a cold remedy. The Romans enjoyed it as a beverage, as well as an incense.
Chamomile is one of the oldest garden herbs, whose reputation as a medicinal plant shows little signs of abatement. Considered a universal remedy by the ancient Egyptians, Chamomile continues to be used today to battle illness, promote calm and relieve anxiety at bedtime. As a tisane (herbal tea), it is naturally caffeine-free and dows wonders for me.
If you have yet to try it, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by itsA flavour. I usually take it calm my stomach. However, there are 3 main benefits to Chamomile; it is an anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, and anti-bacterial herb.
Anti-inflammatory. Chamomile soothes inflammation both inside and outside of the body. On the inside of the body, inflammation is the cause of many gastrointestinal complaints, such as heartburn, and inflammatory bowel disease (aka IBS). ChamomileA acts to sooth the smooth muscles lining the digestive tract, relieving irritable symptoms. Outside the body, chamomile is used to treat mild burns, including sunburn, rashes, sores and even eye inflammation.

Anti-spasmodic.A This property of chamomile is responsible for the muscle and nerve-relaxing powers of the herb. It is used commonly to treat anxiety disorders and insomnia, as well as muscle pain associated with menstrual cramps and muscle strains. Certain active compounds in chamomile work similar to anti-anxiety medications, which promote relaxation in the brain and nervous system.
Anti-bacterial. Chamomile fights bacterial infections by destroying the very bacteria that cause them. One of Chamomile’s active ingredients, Azulene, directly fights staphylococcus and streptococcus infections. By destroying the bacteria that cause infections, chamomile helps to speed up recovery time.
