Bye Bye Facebook FBML …
Recently we’ve seen a new layout for Facebook Profiles and Pages. In addition, last week Facebook announced major updates to Pages to help admins manage and increase communication. A major change that we should take a note of is now the ability for building Page Tabs using iFrames rather than Static FBML app. This means we can now have Page Tabs that use complicated apps and do amazing things.
Up to now, in order to add a custom Tab to your Facebook Pages, we used the Static FBML app. This app allowed us to add a box to our Pages in which we could write HTML or FBML code for enhanced Page customization. For example, if you visit my Facebook Page, I have a custom Page Tab, that displays an enhanced welcome message. What I could do in this Tab was limited. Now, with the use of iFrames, you can do much more. iFrame stands for “inline frame”, and it allows for the inclusion of external objects into you code.
It is also important to note that as of mid March 2011, you will no longer be able to create new FBML apps, and Facebook Pages will no longer be able to add the Static FBML app as it is being deprecated.
Now, in just a few minutes, I was able to replace my FBML Page Tabs with iFrame Tabs. And I was able to add the TREB IDX link to one of Facebook Page Tabs. I guess the possibilities are endless now for techies that want to create all sorts of cool Tabs and Plugin’s for Facebook Pages.
