Blue Stripe

| Sep 25, 2006

I am now a blue stripe. Last evening my son and I went testing for our blue stripe.

This gradingA involved breaking boards, both with a hand blow, and a sliding side kick. We had practived with rebreakable plastic boards at the Dojang so I had nothing to worry about. But I was worried for my son. He had a tough time breaking the boards at the Dojang, and was not very happy.

First we did our moves, and patterns. Then came the sparring time. That went well as well. I sparred with a body of mine, and we knew each other’s moves quite well. And finally it was board breaking time. One board with a hand strike, and two boards with a sliding side kick. No problemo!

My son did really well as well. He broke the board with his first hand strike, but he had a bit of a tough time with the sliding side kick. However, he managed to break the board on his third attempt. I could see the joy in his face. He was so happy he could not stand still and forgot to bow. I was very proud of the little draggon. Dinner =A McDonalds Happy Meal. :-)
