9th kup

| Aug 26, 2005

I’ve been a white belt (10th kup) for a month now. My belt signifies innocence, as that of a new student who has no previous knowledge of Taekwondo. It is now time for me to get my 9th kup (aka yellow stripe).

IA have to A demonstrate some basic stances, punches, and blocks and patterns.A 9th kup is the interim stage between white belt and yellow belt.A For thisA I should be able to do straight punches, upper blocks, out to in middle blocks, in to out middle blocks, and lower blocks. IA should be able to doA walking stances, forward stances, and horse riding stances. Front kick and turning (roundhouse) kicks,A both with left and right foot are mandatory. And, I must know myA Kibon Il patterns which is also called four-corner punches.

The grading exam wasA quite stressful.A It seemed to go quite smoothly, although my techniques could improve a lot. I’m very pleased to have achieved my yellow stripe and am proud of my little dragon for getting the same. Although he is much better than I am, is more flexible, and has learnt much faster than I have.
