More Buzzwords

| Jul 3, 2007

I recently read that according to some survey done by some company… yadi yadi yada… office workers are sick and tired of Office Buzzwords, and in most cases even find them obnoxious. Here’s what’s at the top of the list:

Synergy, At the end of the day, Solution, Metrics, Redeployed people, On the runway, Win-win, Value-added, Paradigm, Get on the same page, Customer-centric, Generation X, Accountability management, Core competency, Alignment, and Incremental.

Let me leave you with some phrases, which you may be hearing more of soon: :-)

Watercooler games: co-worker discussions

Smell test: determining the potential success of a product; formerly “run it up the flag pole”

Critical path: determining the appropriate steps to take

Low-hanging fruit: easy opportunities for new business

Bandwidth: the amount of time and resources needed for a project

Download: assess the facts of a particular situation

Brain dump: providing all of the information; typically given when someone is handing over an initiative or preparing a successor

Stay Fluid: Keep your calendar open for ad-hoc meetings
